China has invited the world to visit in August 2008. Exactly one year out, I've traveled to the heart of the nation that has brutally occupied my homeland for over 50 years. Follow this blog, as I share what I see, feel, and experience... leaving Beijing wide open.

The Sun Will Shine Today

“Maybe the sun will shine today
and the clouds will blow away”
We’re sitting here listening to this song from the new Wilco album, “Sky Blue Sky” and guessing that we probably won’t see the blue sky today. We didn’t see it yesterday either. Maybe tomorrow?

Minorities Park Slideshow

Yesterday I wrote about my experience visiting the racist theme park outside of Beijing. Today, I’ve posted a slideshow of photos taken during our visit.

I hope these images will help communicate the source of the deep, disturbed feelings I was trying to share with you through my written words. Remember, this is all a fake […]

Bird’s Nest Video

Here’s a short video I shot at the Bird’s Nest which I’ve just been able to upload now. Not sure if it will translate, but the scale of the construction is immense.

It’s too bad the mistranslated signs (right) that once pointed the way to “Racist Park” have […]

Day 3 - Being Followed

Strange calls, people following and watching us… is this how it feels to live under oppression?

Outside the window, you can see our “tail” in two cars. They have been following us all day, without trying to hide the fact that they were watching us.

The Bird’s Nest

There’s been so much hype and excitement about it. I just had to come see the The Olympic Stadium (nicknamed the Bird’s Nest) for myself. It’s enormous and obviously meant to inspire awe and reverence in Chinese and foreigners alike, regardless of the cost (which at this point is estimated at 3.8 billion Yuan – […]
