Latest photos of Tibet on fire
This photo is from France24 News and shows cars overturned and burning in front of the Jokhang, Tibet’s most holy temple. This is where the first protest happened on Monday, March 10th According to the accompanying Reuters article, “Protesters in Tibet’s capital Lhasa burnt shops and vehicles and yelled for independence on Friday as the region was hit by its biggest protests for nearly two decades, testing China’s grip months before the Olympics. ”
The photo below is from Labrang, in Amdo province (Chinese:Gansu) in eastern Tibet. You can also see photos of protesters with Tibetan flags at the site Gangyi.com. According to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), monks from Labrang Tashikhil Monastery and the area Tibetans in Sangchu County held a demonstration of thousands today. They had Tibetan flags and were calling for independence.
I’m going to a candlelight vigil now below the main temple in Dharamsala where everyone is overwhelmed by the news coming from inside Tibet. Local shops shut down today in solidarity with the protests and everyone is waiting for news.

This is some intense news, and my thoughts are with the people of Lhasa be they Tibetan, Hui, Han or otherwise. I hope the destruction subsides and Tibetans take the ‘higher road’ in venting their anger. Destruction will only incite a harsher response. News is getting out quite quickly and is making the front splash screens of nearly all the western news outlets. Beijing has taken quite a hit this week in negative publicity and hopefully this continues to draw more attention.

These fires will continue to burn for long till we achieve our goal and china give up its unjust invasion. This is the outcome of a dorment lawa that was brewing down within the hearts of peace loving tibetan peoples around the world. Let all tibetan brother and sisters( monks and nun alike) keep burning the flame of freedom…hope…FREE TIBET….

This is so unfortunate. I am embarrassed by the human rights issues even in India. The clippings of police forcefully halting the demonstrations so as to “not offend the chinese” is brutal, foolish and unfortunate.
I lament the fact that people of such quality are in power and our lives have become pawns in their unworthy hands.
My thoughts with all the Tibetans during this tough time. I can understand the frustrations ebbing in Tibetans, but I sincerely hope peace restores and Dalai Lama’s advice for non-violent protests is taken seriously.
Free Tibet !!

The New York times is calling for eye-witness accounts/photographs on the protests in Tibet. I thought this might be of interest. Spread the word.

And what’s Mr. Hu thinking? He’s caught between a rock and a hard place, between Tiananmen Tank Man and … Liu Xiang.
