China has invited the world to visit in August 2008. Exactly one year out, I've traveled to the heart of the nation that has brutally occupied my homeland for over 50 years. Follow this blog, as I share what I see, feel, and experience... leaving Beijing wide open.

I ran into a friend on the street today. He’s a monk from Kirti monastery. He’s from Amdo, Ngaba, where there has been intense protests against Chinese rule in the past week. At least 15 people are reported to have been killed by Chinese military. What I didn’t realize until I met my friend today, is that his sister is one of those people.

He said the girl in the picture was his cousin. You wrote “his sister”. Just thought I’d let you know.

Lhadon,

Thank you so much for doing this video, it is heartbreaking.
He seems like such a sweet guy and what he said about the death of cousin for the cause of free Tibet made my cry. My heart goes out to him.
I pray he finds peace and more importantly gets his homeland back so all Tibetans can go home including the Dalai Lama.

I read today that Archbishop Desmond Tutu said” When people decide to be free, there is no power in the world that can stop them”
I hope you can share that with him.
Stay safe.
