China has invited the world to visit in August 2008. Exactly one year out, I've traveled to the heart of the nation that has brutally occupied my homeland for over 50 years. Follow this blog, as I share what I see, feel, and experience... leaving Beijing wide open.

How can the IOC even think about taking the torch through Tibet?

Greek police take Tibetan Freedom Torch in OlympiaThe Olympic Torch will be lit in ancient Olympia tomorrow and everything it stands for is being compromised and undermined by China’s brutal policies in Tibet, East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia, Darfur, and, of course, China itself.

Even as I write this, the Chinese government is undermining Greek democracy. SFT’s Deputy Director, Tenzin Dorjee, is being followed by Greek undercover police as he tries to make his way to Olympia to peacefully express his views in opposition to China’s occupation of Tibet and the bloody crackdown that is taking place there right now. Just two weeks ago, Chinese agents took over the small town of Olympic and directed Greek agents to stop young Tibetans from entering the area where the flame is lit.
Of course the Olympics are inherently political and the Chinese government is using them for all that they are worth. In May, they plan to run the torch to the summit of Mt. Everest. And then again through Tibet in June. This is a blatantly political move to underscore Chinese claims to Tibet. The Chinese authorities want the world to see images of happy Tibetans cheering by the roadside as the torch runs by. And, as the following statement by a government official shows, they will do anything to ensure that it all goes as they plan.

“We shall go all out to ensure the smooth movement of the torch relay. We must strengthen ethnic unity while hostile forces try to drive a wedge between ethnic groups.”

Considering the bloody crackdown that is happening right now inside Tibet- the thousands of Tibetans that are being terrorized and likely tortured for nothing more than desiring and speaking for freedom -it is unthinkable that the IOC is still planning to take the torch there. Tibetans already knew that Jacques Rogges and the lot of IOC members were a bunch of sociopaths. Their refusal to cancel the torch relay through Tibet is just proof to the world.

If you think taking the torch through Tibet is a bad idea. You can take action here.

It’s OK, just relay, just let it be.

China has a saftey valve control, if they open the border to let those tibetans flee, I bet more than half of their total population in China would pack up and flee the country. I guarantee it.

Those folks want to be like you, enjoy freedom, live in the west, watch cable TV, higher wage, and enjoy the higher standard of living.

China’s brutal policies?
Bloody crackdown?
Have you seen the violence made by those Tibetans and monks?
Or can I consider that you have been misled by western medias?
These days,
18 people died from the accident. 323 were wounded. 242 cops and armed policemen were injured(1 died). 120 buildings were burned. 84 vehicles were destroyed. 908 shops were burned or robbed. 7 schools and 5 hospitals were damaged.
However western medias suddenly turned a deaf ear to these outrage, on the contrary they described China government as the one who enkindled the accident and crackdowned the mobs.
At last, I am sorry for your ignorance as you said “of course the Olympics are inherently political”.
Olympics has nothing to do with political matters. This is a common sense.
中国的暴政?血腥的镇压?
莫非那些反动藏人和僧侣的暴行你就没看见?
或者说你已经被西方媒体洗脑了?
在这个事件中,
18名民众死亡;
323名民众受伤;
242名公安民警、武警伤亡(其中牺牲1人,重伤23人)。
烧毁民房120间;
毁损车辆84台;
焚毁砸抢商铺908家;
7所学校、5家医院受损;

May i remind Mr Cheng that we admire Lao Tseu, the Yi King and the Buddhist Chinese poets of the 11th century?
But may we remind him -and we know Mr Cheng knows, for he is one of those in power; in a counyty where typing ‘rignt of man’ brings the police to your home and not for a cup of tea- that the government of China is using the same technics as the KGB did in Budaprdt, but i was born before Mr Cheng, of course! The technic is showing what some of the people do, because they want freedom, but hiding what the colionalist poawer (china) does : it is a message to the han for bringing up hatred, not a meesage to the West.

To Cheng:

Tibet will be independent. I am Tibetan. I am not Chinese. The Tibetan people demand independence. This is inevitable. 西藏将独立运作。我是藏族。我就不是中国人。西藏人民要求独立。这是不可避免的。

Everyone can see China is run by a bunch of greedy Nazi’s disguised as leaders that are bullying Tibet’s people. We see these Chinese come to our country too and they think its all about them. We don’t care about any free trade agreements because China’s goods suck. You buy a pair of gumboots thinking they’ll keep you feet dry and they leak after a day. I know where I’d like to stick my crappy Chinese Gumboots.
